During logging-while-drilling operations, sealed radioactive sources travel downhole within the bottom-hole assembly. Should a source become dislodged, damaged or lost in circulation, it can be carried to surface within the drilling mud, creating a serious radiological hazard. The Filosha Oilfield Mud Radiation Monitor guards against this by continuously watching the mud return line for gamma activity. Its magnetic mounting clamps quickly and securely to steel pipework without tools or modification, allowing rapid deployment at the flowline, shakers or return manifold, while the gamma detector inside constantly checks that source activity remains contained downhole where it belongs.

Built as an intrinsically safe instrument, the monitor is rated for the hazardous, flammable atmospheres of the drill floor and mud-processing areas, operating safely without permits or shutdowns. Rugged, weatherproof construction withstands the vibration, mud, heat and humidity of GCC and Indian rig environments, and clear audible and visual alarms alert the crew the instant abnormal gamma levels are detected. By providing immediate, position-specific warning of a source coming to surface, the monitor enables the drilling team to halt operations, isolate the area and initiate controlled recovery procedures.
